"Coming This Fall" Video

The video and email below is from Nathan Daschle of the Democratic Governor's Association, and he emailed me asking that I spread it around. I thought you'd enjoy it!

Nathan's email:

"You heard from me recently about the new fear-centric marketing campaign by the Republican Governors Association. It's called 'Remember November,' and is based on the story of Guy Fawkes, the 17th-century English terrorist who tried to blow up Parliament.

Well, the DGA is responding to these sick tactics. But instead of using images of violence to incite fear, we went in a slightly different direction.

Click here to find out how we turned the RGA's ridiculous tactic on its head! Watch the DGA's "Coming This Fall" video! (NOTE: No click needed, the video is shown above)

The future of our country should be driven by the vigor of America's great debate, not seditious flame-throwing rhetoric. Utter nonsense like 'Remember November' might be good for firing up the angry fringe, but it does absolutely nothing to move our country forward.

So please, check out our new video today -- and then forward it to 5 friends!

We need your help to show people that these dangerous antics by the GOP won't work. Show them we will hold them accountable and respond in a way that brings them right back to reality.

Thanks for all you've done, and all you continue to do, for the Democratic Governors Association.

-Nathan

Elder/Palin For President

I was cruisin' through Random Nuclear Strikes this morning and came across this post. Apparently Larry Elder, the popular and conservative California talk show host was considering running for the Senate against Barbara Boxer. The Republicans told him not to, and that they would not support him. You should go read the whole story.

On March 4th, 2007 I ran a post picking Larry Elder as my preferred choice for President. Nothing in the intervening years has changed my mind as to my choice. For vice president, I'd go with Sarah Palin, although Sarah as President and Larry as VP would work for me too. Either way you've got conservative Libertarian/Republicans in charge, and that would be a great step in the right (pun intended) direction.

Here's the post from 2007. Go re-read Larry's "Ten Points Plan" linked in the post, if you're not sure of where Larry stands.

Larry Elder -- My Pick for President

Looking over the front runners for the Republican and Democratic nomination for president, there doesn't seem to be ANYONE who's solidly pro second amendment. Heck, there doesn't even seem to be a conservative in the lot!

As I looked for someone who is a good communicator, well educated, street-smart, and not afraid to stand up and state his position without a lot of "weasel-words" (no offence intended towards Cowboy Blob's ferrets), one person comes to mind, the talk radio host Larry Elder. Now before you laugh this off, go to Larry's website and have a look around. Spend a few minutes seeing what he has to say. In particular, have a look at his Ten Point Plan. Then write down the ten main points expressed by any of the other candidates. (Can you find ten? Didn't think so! )

Now go down the lists one item at a time and see how many match up with your personal politics. I'm not exactly "eye-to-eye" with him on everything, but he's way closer than anyone else.

To have any chance at all, he would have to run as a Republican, but we have "Conservative" Republicans, "Moderate" Republicans, and even "RINO's", so I have no problem at all with a Libertarian Republican. Actually, I kinda like the sound of it!

In today's politics, Thomas Jefferson would be a Libertarian Republican, and that's what we need.......

Heller Affirmed - Good News (Sorta.....)

Well, the good news, as most of you probably already know, the Supreme Court has upheld the Heller decision, and spelled out that the Second Amendment means just what we already believed it to mean, that the right to keep and bear arms is an individual right, not a collective one.

The bad news is that the vote was 5 to 4. In other words, we came within one vote of losing the right to individually keep and bear arms.

In the next few years probably two of the Judges will be retiring and will be replaced by two new ones. They will be appointed by the President. Who we elect as the next president will be crucially important for the future of our freedoms. For those considering voting for a candidate with no hope of winning, as a protest, or voting for an anti-gun candidate so it can "get worse before it gets better", just remember, the president after the next one can't "Un-appoint" Supreme Court justices.

Once they get appointed, we're stuck with them, good or bad, until they retire......

GO FRED ! ! !

Quite a while back I mentioned that Fred Thompson would make an excellent president. He has now entered the presidential race, and here's a video of his announcement.

Guiliani now maintains that being in this country illegally isn't illegal! Romney? I don't think so. There are a couple of other Republicans out there that sound pretty good, but they have no chance whatever of getting the nomination. The Democrats have Hillary and Obama, and either one is a nightmare in the making, in my opinion.

Give Fred's speech a listen, and see if it doesn't resonate with you, too......

Peter Robinson Interview with Fred Thompson
(It seems to play back better if I link directly to the Google video rather than embedding it.)

If you aren't too sure exactly who Fred Thompson is or where he's coming from politically, here's an excellent interview to get you started.

OOPS! I forgot to give credit to Phil over at Random Nuclear Strikes where I came across this video, on the Random Nuclear Strikes blog! You DO read his blog, don't you?

Pajamas Media Presidential Poll

This week's Pajamas Media Presidential poll results.

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that Fred Thompson was getting a lot of votes in various presidential polls, even though he hasn't even officially entered the race. A number of other bloggers, including Phil over at Random Nuclear Strikes are also watching the polls, and particularly watching Fred Thompson. I suspect that Mr. Thompson is going to sit back and let the other declared candidates beat up on each other, and then declare fairly late in the game. That could prove to be an excellent strategy, it seems to me.

I've added a linked graphic to the PajamasMedia poll over there on the right sidebar so you can both vote, and see the poll results as votes come in. At the top of the results page you can see the total results from all "Precincts" (blogs) or you can view just the votes from here. This may be fun to watch!

While you're at it, you might want to check out the PajamasMedia blog, there's a lot of good stuff there.....

Fred Thompson Prez Poll

I came across an interesting poll at Sparklit.com. The poll seems to be a list of just about all of the "Declared" or "Considering it" Republican presidential candidates. The poll is already closed, and it only had 4608 votes, so it certainly can't be considered on the same level as the big national polls, but even so, the results are a bit of a surprise. It doesn't say just how the notice of the poll was distributed, so there is no way of knowing the demographics.

It does make me want to look deeper Fred Thompson's politics, though.......
