Modelo Nuevos De Ruger Escogen Seises

Blogger Blastorama - After Action Report

After a wonderful breakfast at the Clover Patch Cafe, complete with a enthusiastic BS session over the breakfast table, we headed out to the CWSA range.

First stop was the bowling pin range. We set up an assortment of full size pins and pin tops just to get warmed up.

After we'd shot a few tables, we set up full size pins on the back edge of the tables for KeeWee and AnalogKid to have at it, two out of three. KeeWee beat him two tables straight!

To be fair, however, AK was shooting with iron sights, and KeeWee was using a red dot on top of her Beretta Neos. The red dot sights are enough of an advantage, at least when speed is the name of the game, that in pin shoots we put them in separate classes. Once AK gets a red dot onto his 22/45, we'll have to try this again.

Then KeeWee took on Mollbot, and three close tables later, Mollbot was the victor, but not by much!

To wrap up our bowling pin shooting for the day, JimP faced Mollbot, and JimP jumped all over him, as Jim is prone to do.

Keep an eye on Mollbot, however, as he'd never shot pins before, and with a little practice is going to be really tough to beat!

Jim and Mollbot shooting for king of the mountain. Mr. C. running the timer.

Next stop was the handgun range to do a little "Punkin Blastin'!" Mr. C. decided to carve a Jack-o-lantern with his .22 High Standard pin gun!

Here's some of the punkins set up on the shooting stands.

Mollbot, Mr. C., and JimP sending a lot of lead down range towards the punkins! The .22's punched neat little holes in the punkins, the .38's and 9mm.'s punched bigger holes, .357 Magnum hollow points blew big chunks out of the punkins, and .44 Magnum hollow points, well, the punkins sorta exploded! Great fun!

Here's some of the punkin chunks that were actually intact enough that they could be picked up. Most of them were in little pieces scattered all over the place.

Next stop was the rifle range. We were starting to run out of daylight, but plenty to get in some more shooting, this time at a longer range. Now the wind was giving us some pretty good gusts at right angles to the range. Not too big a deal with a .308, sort of a deal with the 22-250, and a definite concern with .22s. We set up some punkins at 100 yards and 200 yards, and taped up some 3/4" square pool cue chalks at 100 yards.

Mollbot and AnalogKid, along with AK's custom Boomershoot rifle.

AK on the 22-250, and MB shooting the Boomershooter.

The Boomershooter had no trouble hitting the punkins at all ranges, and the pool chalks, although a little harder, still weren't too much of a test. The 22-250 had to work a lot harder, but acquitted itself well.

I didn't have anything in the way of a scoped up rifle, but I DID have a 12" barrel for my High Standard .22 bowling pin handgun fitted with a Leupold 2.5x9 scope, so I swapped out barrels, and decided to give it the old college try. To my amazement, I hit a 100 yard punkin on my first shot! WOO HOO! I was sighted in for 50 yards, and shooting a couple of inches high was about right. The chalks, however, were really tough! A 3/4 inch target at 100 yards with a .22 handgun in a gusty wind, turns it more into a matter of luck, but I did actually manage to hit two of them! You get a nice cloud of blue chalk dust when you hit them. Also very cool!

By now it was getting dark and fingers and toes were getting cold, so we cleaned up all the pumpkin pieces, goo, and seeds, and headed home.

What fun! You shoulda been there!

Blastorama Tomorrow

There won't be much blogging going on until probably tomorrow night, since KeeWee and I are off in the morning to the Blogger Blastorama breakfast, then to the CWSA range for the Blastorama itself.

At the last minute Rivrdog had to cancel out, because the gun club he's joining is having the new member orientation on Sunday, and the next one isn't until January. He's going to talk to them about the possibility of a Winter indoor pin shoot series in Portland, though, and that would be a cool thing! Let's hope he can convince them it's a good idea. I'm sure a few of us Washington pin shooters would make it down there to help kick it off!

I just finished getting all of the gun cases, range bags, and so forth all ready to go for the Blastorama, and KeeWee remarked that it looked like we were leaving on vacation by the amount of "luggage".

Those bowling pins and punkins are in a heap of trouble.........

Great Sign!

National Ammo Day Is Coming!

On November 19th. there will be a National Ammo Day "Buy-cott", so start inventorying what you've got on hand, and put together your ammo shopping list. If you are buying .338, then one hundred rounds is a good start. I'll hear none of this "buy a couple of boxes of .22's" stuff, either!

Let's see, six or eight bricks of .22, some .38 Special, some .357, .44 specials, .44 Magnums, 9mm., 9x18, .380, oops, just about out of 30-30, that ought to be a good start. I think I'm OK for .223! I may need a wheelbarrow!

If you can carry the bag in one hand, you aren't even getting close. BUY MORE AMMO!

Buy it cheap, and stack it deep......

The early jet engines, even when you had six of them, didn't have enough power to get the Boeing B-47 flying unless you had a rather long runway.

Escape Game

Here's a great little game that's gonna drive you nuts! The game is simple, you just drag the red square around the "playing field" as the blue boxes chase you around. If you hit a wall or a blue box gets you, the game is over, and it shows you how many seconds you survived.

Over twenty seconds is considered outstanding. So far I haven't been able to get to thirteen seconds! I'm sure glad it doesn't cost a quarter for every game, I'd be broke in no time.

A lawyer was reading out the will of a rich man to those mentioned in it:

"To you, my loving wife Rose, who stood by me in rough times as well as good, I leave the house and $2 million."

The lawyer continued, "To my daughter Jessica, who looked after me in sickness and kept the business going, I leave the yacht, the business and $1 million."

The lawyer concluded, "And, to my cousin Dan, who hated me, obstructed me at every turn, and thought I would never mention him in my will - well you are wrong again. Hi Dan!"

Blog Milestone - 20,000 Visitors!

I've been so busy the last few days between working, sorting out the details for this weekend's Blogger Blastorama, designing the e-Postal match target, and figuring out the rules for the match, I hadn't even noticed that sometime last night we rolled over the 20,000 visitors mark!

The fact that you all seem to be enjoying the posts, entering into the e-Postal matches, and leaving great comments makes it all worthwhile.

To all of you, I most humbly say "Thank You!"

............Mr. C.

A Gearhead's Guide to Tools

There's a gread piece up over at the Gunn Nutt titled "A Gearhead's Guide to Tools".

You definitely DO NOT want to have a mouth full of coffee and be facing your computer when you read this.

Of all the definitions, here's my favorite:

HAMMER: Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is used as a kind of divining rod to locate expensive parts not far from the object we are trying to hit.

The best and funniest humor always seems to have a strong element of truth in it somewhere!

Go HERE to read the entire post!

e-Postal Handgun Match "Seein' Spots" Rules

Seein' Spots

This month’s handgun match is a real challenge, as it's relatively easy to do fairly well ,but REALLY tough to max the score.

The name of the new match is "Seein' Spots", and I'm sure some of us will be "Seein' Spots" long after shooting the match!.

This month's match is two separate divisions, with individual classes in each of the divisions. You can enter either division, or both, and in as many of the classes as you like.

TARGET: The same target is used in both divisions. The target can be downloaded from

http://www.magnumss.com/etarget4.pdf.

It is an Adobe Acrobat PDF file. When you print it out, the biggest circles should measure 2" inches across. If you print it out and end up with less than two inches, try un-checking "fit to page" in the print settings.

DIVISION ONE: Ten yards, un-supported, standing, no magnifying optical sights, but red dots without magnification are allowed.

DIVISION TWO: Fifty yards: Any sight, any shooting position, using a bench rest permitted, but no gun vises or anything that clamps the gun. We are testing your shooting from a rest, not just the gun itself!

(New Distance added)

DIVISION THREE: 25 yards: Any sight, any shooting position, using a bench rest permitted, but no gun vises or anything that clamps the gun. We are testing your shooting from a rest, not just the gun itself!

CLASSES: For this match, the classes will be by caliber, or bore diameter as follows:

There will be four classes, based on the first digit of the diameter of the bore,

Class One: 0 through .199 inches
Class Two: .200 through .299 inches
Class Three: .300 through .399 inches (includes 9mm.)
Class Four: .400 or larger (includes 10mm.)

If there are enough entries of a particular type, such as revolver, a separate sub-class may be created.

DIVISION ONE DISTANCE: Ten yards.

DIVISION TWO DISTANCE: Fifty yards.

DIVISION THREE DISTANCE: Twentyfive yards.

DIVISION ONE SHOOTING POSITION: Standing, un-supported, off-hand.

DIVISION TWO SHOOTING POSITION: Any shooting position - bench rest allowed.

DIVISION THREE SHOOTING POSITION: Any shooting position - bench rest allowed.

DIVISION ONE SIGHTS: Division One - Any type of sight provided there is no magnification.

DIVISION TWO SIGHTS: Open sights, red dot sights, telescopic sights allowed.

DIVISION THREE SIGHTS: Open sights, red dot sights, telescopic sights allowed.

CALIBER: Any caliber handgun, including air pistols.

(Procedure Change)

PROCEDURE: You only get to shoot one target per Division/Class entry. Re-shooting the a target for a better score with the same gun is not permitted.

PROCEDURE: You only get to ENTER one target per Division/Class entry. Shooting another target for a better score with the same gun is permitted.

Practice all you want, but not on the match targets. When you are all warmed up and sighted in, hang the first target and go for it! Sighting in and warming up between entries is permitted.

SCORING: In each division/class you are allowed twenty shots at the target. However, there are only nineteen spots, so your best nineteen shots are counted. Each target has a perfect score of 365. Each spot can only be counted once, no matter how many times you shoot it. Ties will be posted as ties.

Mark your score on each target with a legible felt pen, along with the division and class. Don't write your name on the target, only the name you want to appear in the results.

STRATEGY: One hole in each spot is what you want, but are you better off to risk trying for the forty spot, and risk missing it, or should you play it safe and be sure to get the easier ones of lower value? That's part of the challenge!!

MULTIPLE ENTRIES: You can enter more than once, in fact, it is encouraged. Shoot everything you own, and everything you can borrow! Take a buddy to the range, get him entered, then borrow his gun and enter that! The only restriction is that you can only enter once for any given gun, in any individual Division/Class.

Different calibers in the same gun count as one gun. For example, .38SPL and .357MAG are considered as one, as would be .44SPL and .44MAG. Different guns of the same caliber and barrel length can be entered.

SUBMITTING YOUR ENTRY: Take a digital photo of, (or scan) your targets, and email the picture, along with:

1. Your score for each target page, total of both pages and if a team entry the total of all 4 targets.

2. The name(s) you want used when we post the results

3. Gun description - Brand, model, semi-auto, revolver, black powder, caliber, barrel length, and type of sights

4. Division One or Two or three, and Class One, Two, Three, or Four.

5. Anything interesting or unique about your entry that other shooters might enjoy hearing about.

Email it all to b l o g (at) w h i d b e y (dot) c o m

If you can’t scan or send target pictures, send everything else to me in an email, and we’ll arrange for either fax or snail mail for the targets.

The rules are subject to revision as needed, should the need arise.

All entries must be received by Midnight Monday. November 21st., and results will be posted within seven days, or less.

If you have any questions, leave the question in the comments to this post, or send me an email, or both.

Have fun!!

.......and the winning caption is?

Here's the latest in the "You Caption It" series.

I'll start it off, but you all usually come up with much better captions.

Blastorama Breakfast Map and driving directions

Here's a map to show you how to get to the Clover Patch Cafe on Sunday morning, Oct. 30th. at 10am. for the Blogger Blastorama breakfast.
(click map for larger image)

Cross over to Whidbey Island on the Mukilteo-Clinton ferry, follow the main highway (HWY 525) North, and somewhere around 6 + miles you'll see a Red Apple Grocery and a Sebo's Hardware store on the LEFT side of the highway. You will pass a different Red Apple grocery roughly 3 miles from the ferry dock, but it's on the RIGHT side of the highway. Ignore the first one. Watch for the one on the LEFT. Turn into the parking lot for the Red Apple grocery from HWY 525. The Clover Patch Cafe is on the left end of the Red Apple building. You will be able to see it as soon as you enter the parking lot. If you see signs for Freeland, you've gone several miles too far!

If you can't make it in time for the breakfast, we will be leaving the Clover Patch at roughly 11:30 for the range, so you can meet up with us at the restaurant, and drive up to the range as a group to simplify signing you in as range guests.

If you miss us at the Clover Patch, head on up to the range, which is a little over twenty minutes away. The range is just past the Navy OLF Coupeville airfield, which will be on your left. Just past OLF Coupeville watch for the Central Whidbey Sportsman's Association sign and Safari road. Turn left onto Safari road.

You will see the club grounds and gate directly in front of you. If the gate is closed, park to the side, and walk in to the bowling pin range, which is behind the clubhouse, and to the left.

If we've moved to the pistol range, it is also on the left. If you are really late, we may be on the rifle range, which is on the right.

If you are planning to make it to the Blogger Blastorama (you DON'T have to be a blogger!) be sure to send me an email at
b l o g ( a t ) w h i d b e y ( d o t ) c o m
and we'll be watching for you.

Hope to see you there!

New Blogroll Member!

Just came across a great shootin' blog, called OX Rant. He's down in Florida, and hopefully the hurricanes are going easy on him.

Maybe he'll post a report on how it is affecting him, if it is doing so.

Anyhow, OXEN has got some good pictures from Saturday's range visit. Well worth having a look!

HERE is the link, or click on The OX Rant over in the blogroll.

Leave him a comment, and say Mr. Completely says "HI".

Brazilian Gun Owners Win BIG!

In spite of the efforts of the Brazilian Anti-Gunners, the nationwide vote on an outright ban on guns has failed by a huge 64% to 36% margin.

That's not just a "squeaker", that's a major league message to the gun banners. It's also a message to any politician who starts sounding too "Anti-Gun" that you might just get voted out at the next election.

What's a lot of fun is reading the anti-gunners in the media trying to explain how this vote could have gone so far wrong!

Here's some excerpts (in bold and enclosed in quotation marks) from the AP story run in the BBC. (Original story HERE).

"The 'No' campaign portrayed the referendum in terms of civil rights"

Gee, now that Brazil has restored democracy in their country, you'd think they'd be running to the polls to vote away their civil rights!

"In explaining the outcome, credit must first be given to the "No" campaign, which mounted a slick but simple critique of the proposed gun ban."

The vote outcome had nothing to do with facts about guns and crime, it was all about the slick campaign run by those gun wackos!

It (the "No" campaign) portrayed the referendum in terms of civil rights, claiming that the government wanted to take away the right of people to choose how best to defend themselves.

Civil Rights? Why would Brazilians want those?

It (the "No" campaign) argued that, even if Brazilians did not want a gun, they should defend their right to buy one.

Now there's a slick and sneaky argument if I ever heard one! Those gun wackos are obviously a bunch of weasels!!

Next, and crucially, the "No" campaign made the point that criminals do not buy guns legally in shops, where customers are subject to strict background checks. Instead, it pointed to the extensive black market in smuggled weapons, arguing that clandestine firearms would remain untouched by a ban on legal sales. As a result, millions of voters reached the conclusion that a ban would leave criminals heavily armed, and honest citizens without a lawful means of self-defence.

.......but ......but ..... but ..... Guns Are EEEEVILLLLL!!!!! (sheeeesh!)

So the gun banners got theirs butts kicked, and yet the media has to get in one last snide dig:

"Brazil is proud of its recently-restored democracy. And rightly or wrongly, the Brazilian people have spoken."

Give me a break! The Brazilians aren't a bunch of stone age bozos! Brazil is a well educated, modern, industrialized country, and once the facts were presented, they had no trouble waking up and smelling the coffee.........

GOOD FOR THEM!

CWSA Pin Shoot Report - 10/22/05

Let's see, ear protection (check), Eye protection (check), Glock shooting hat (check), Scruffy dressed as a Haloween Pumpkin (check). Yep, all set for an October CWSA Pin Shoot!

KeeWee and Rainey

We had fantastic Fall weather for the next to the last CWSA pin shoot of the season, and although the turnout was light, there was a lot of really close matches. There were even several ties, requiring a re-shoot. GeraldR set a new club record for fast centerfire table, getting five pins in 2.57 seconds. W O W ! Even as fast as Gerald was shooting, he still just barely beat KimG in the finals. Kim doesn't waste much time, either!

The rimfire pin top matches were also very close. I entered both my S&W 422 and my High Standard, now equipped with the new C-More red dot sight. I had apparently gotten a bad batch of Federal ammo, and about every tenth round wouldn't fire, even with a good firing pin strike, so I struggled in qualifying.

Everyone else was qualifying slow too, and I ended up with fast time with the 422, just a fraction of a second ahead of "Evil Al". JimP was third. I was only able to qualify the High Standard into fourth place due to the time lost clearing misfires.

Al made short work of me in the first round, so the 422 was done for the day. Shooting the High Standard, I faced "Arch Rival" JimP in the first round, and narrowly got past him to then face Pegi in the second round. Again, it was close, but the pins rolled favorably for me.

KeeWee had been steadily working her way through the pack, Retiring Both Dean and Rainey, putting her against me in the semi-finals. If I would have bobbled at all she would have got me, but the pin gods were still smiling favorably.

That brought "Evil Al" and I back together for the final. Having changed to different ammo, I hadn't had any more mis-fires, so it looked like it was going to be a really close final. I was starting to get used to the new C-More, and it was becoming more automatic for me.

On the first table I shot perhaps my best table of the day to narrowly edge Al, who was cutting me no slack at all!

The second table I reverted to one of my old bad habits and dropped my elbow a bit, causing me to miss a couple of pins on the first shot, and Al Al takes the second table.

Now it's five pins left, winner take all! This time I remembered to keep my elbow up. This may easily have been the two fastest rimfire tables of the day, with my last pin hitting the ground just a fraction of a second before Al's. What a great match.

There's nothing more fun than coming up head to head against another shooter who shoots almost exactly the same times you do. No room for error, no easy ride, no playing it safe, you've got to shoot the very best you possibly can. What a rush!!

The iron sight class only had four shooters, and it boiled down to JimP and I in the final. Jim won the first table by a narrow margin. In the second table, I had a slight lead on him when I had another mis-fire, and by the time I cleared it Jim was almost one pin ahead of me, and that's how it ended up.

I wish I could have got him on that table so I could have had another "Winner Takes All" final.

Maybe next time.......

Blogger Blastorama - Breaking News!

For the upcoming Blogger Blastorama duel between Rivrdog and Mr. Completely, Rivrdog has chosen AnalogKid of Random Nuclear Strikes as his second. Mr. Completely has chosen KeeWee, Mr. Completely's better half and proprietor of KeeWee's Corner, as his second.

KeeWee has now challenged AnalogKid to a duel!

The challenge will be on the Bowling Pin range, full size bowling pins set on the back of the table, with any handgun, any sights, regular pin shooting rules, two tables out of three.

(This is gonna be fun to watch!!)

More on the Jennings J-22

There have been some questions regarding the Jennings J-22 semi-automatic pistol to be used next Sunday at the Blogger Blastorama. This is a picture of the exact one that will be used when Rivrdog and Mr. Completely duel it out!

The Jennings special model which we will be using is a custom competition limited model called the "DISG", which stands for

Greatness

It's often heard at the range, when I show up with the Jennings "Are you planning to shoot that DISG RACE gun today? If so, I'm outta here."

It's reputation alone strikes fear in the hearts of other shooters.....

Blogger Blastorama - Latest Breaking News

The planning is well underway for next weekend's Blogger Blastorama, bowling pin blast, and pumpkin slaughter.

I hear rumors that there will be a "Head-to-head" grudge match shoot-off between Mr. Completely and Rivrdog. The weapon of choice will be a finely tuned, incredibly accurate Jennings J-22 "race gun". It will be interesting to see if EITHER of these two can hit a target at ten yards with the Jennings!

The bookmakers are already looking into the odds, (and so far they all seem to agree that both of these guys are a little odd), and both Reno and Vegas are following the developments closely.

We've heard a rumor that the second assistant Sports Page editor for the East Undershirt Kansas Gazette may actually be there in person, possibly even filing shot by shot reports to the newsmedia.

It has also been rumored that well known radio commentator Wally Ballou may possibly be doing live radio commentary of the event.

I sure hope the vegetable rights folks don't show up and start protesting our treatment of the pumpkins as they are prone to do at events like these. They can be very annoying, with the signs and chanting and all.

October 30th. is the day, that's next Sunday!

Clearly the social event of the entire Fall season.....

Blog Alert - Misc. News

Blogging will be a little light Saturday as KeeWee and I are off to one of the last pin shoots of the year. I'll be trying out the new C-More red dot sight for the first time in competition. I'm sure the sight will do fine, but I'm not so sure about the operator. I'll have a report up for you either Saturday night or on Sunday.

This afternoon we went to a Steel Challenge CWSA practice session to introduce steel challenge matches to our club members. It looks like these matches are going to be a lot of fun. The targets are fairly large and rather close to you, so accuracy isn't nearly as critical as a pin shoot. Speed, however, is the name of the game.

KeeWee's and my times were OK compared to the rest of the folks that hadn't tried steel challenge before either, but we've got a ways to go to get competitive.

Courteous but WRONG

I few days ago I was one of the first to post about Sgt. Ron Long and his blog "They Call Us, "DOC", regarding the "staged" interview with the president.

Sgt. Long has continued with his blogging efforts, and his ENTIRE BLOG is worth reading from end to end.

The following post I have taken the liberty of borrowing in it's entirety. Normally I would just grab a couple of quotes, but this is so good I want you all to read it from end to end.

You should carry a copy of this email, and Sgt. Long's replies at all times, and the next time you hear someone bleat that they support the troops but not the war, read this to them.

From Sgt Long's post:
Here's an email that I got today, along with my reply:

Mr. Long -

I am 100% against the Iraq war but I have always been pro-military.

1) Do you believe the Iraqi people want us there?

2) Do you truly think they're better off now than they were 3 years ago?

3) In the absence of a specific threat to the US, did we have any right to invade Iraq, more than Saddam had a right to invade Kuwait?

4) Are the insurgents really "terrorists", or are they Iraqis defending their own country from a foreign invasion?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Bob

Bob,

You can't have your cake and eat it too. It's ridiculous to tell us that you're behind US but you're not behind our mission or the job that we're doing. What good is that to us? It's NOTHING to me.

1) Yes...Just ask them (oh...you're not here, that's right)

2) Yes...Just look around (oh...you're not here, I forgot)

3) Not even worthy of answering since you're wrong about the specific threat

4) Yes...Just speak to the insurgents and you'll see that many are not Iraqi (silly me...I keep forgetting that you're not here and that you must rely on the MSM for daily dose of informational bull)

(And if you were here, seeing what we see and hearing the stories from the Iraqi people like we do, you might see the light also)

-Ron

Fun at the range - Texas style!!

Nice Rack of Toys!

Head over at Head's Bunker has posted a bunch of pictures from his most recent outdoor range shoot, including some cool guns and exploding targets.

It looks like they had a lot of fun!! Here's the link to the entire post.

Abbott and Costello Buy a Computer

Remember the Abbott and Costello routine "Who's on first?" Someone has written a script of what it would sound like today if Abbott and Costello tried to buy a computer over the telephone. It's so well done, and so funny, you can almost hear their voices as you read it.

KeeWee has it posted over at KeeWee's corner for your reading pleasure.

Patty Murray Threatens to do her job......

Senator Patty Murray, Washington (D), has threatened to actually DO her job. In speaking out against the Colburn amendment, an amendment to redirect Federal funding from the wasteful pork project the “Bridge to Nowhere” in Alaska to the repair and reconstruction of the “Twin Spans” bridge in Louisiana, Senator Murray just issued a threat against any Senators who vote for the amendment:

"we on the Appropriations Committee
will take a "long, hard look"
at any projects in your state."

ALL RIGHTY, THEN!

That's great news! The appropriations committee members taking a long hard look at questionable projects is exactly what they are SUPPOSED to do!

Maybe this means that they will actually start looking for and cutting out some of the pork barrel projects and start spending responsibly!! WOO HOO!

Probably just an idle threat............

Hat tip to both Red State and Mover Mike for the heads-up!

New Element Discovered!

A major research institution has recently announced the discovery of the heaviest element yet known to science. The new element has been named "Governmentium."

Governmentium has one neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons, and 224 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of particles called peons. Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert. However, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A minute amount of Governmentium causes one reaction to take over four days to complete, when it would normally take less than a second.

Governmentium has a normal half-life of 4 years; it does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places. In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes.

This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a certain quantity in concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as "Critical Morass."

When catalyzed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium - an element which radiates just as much energy as the Governmentium since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons.

Hat tip to Mary! Thanks.....

Bunker Buster Video

Here's a video clip from Compfused.com that pretty clearly illustrates why Osama might just never be found!

If the guys that are after you have these bad boys, you've got NOWHERE to hide!!

WHOOO - EEEEEEE!

Weather Modification and Hurricanes?

As most of you already know, there is a TV weatherman in Idaho who is claiming that the recent hurricanes have been "managed" or "controlled" in order to use them as a weapon against the Untited States.

For the most part, the mainstream media just dismisses him and his theory as something good for a laugh, but nothing to take seriously.

Here's the hypothetical questions for you:

Assume for the moment that it is possible to remotely influence a hurricane in order to maximize the damage it causes to the mainland. Also assume that somebody has the equipment to do so, and is, in fact, doing exactly that.

1. How many hurricanes would it take for us to figure out what's happening?

2. Assuming that the U.S. Government figures it out, but is powerless to stop it, would they tell us, or keep it secret?

3. If the weather modification equipment was in a foreign country that was otherwise considered to be our friend, we confronted them about it through quiet diplomacy, and they said they were only running a research station and weren't modifying anyone's weather, what should we do?

What do YOU think?

This is hypothetical, so you don't get to change the premises. For the sake of discussion you have to accept the premises as true, and go from there......

Steel Challenge - An Intro

Shoot two targets, run to the second box, shoot two more, then shoot the stop plate, all as fast as you can. Piece of cake!

We've decided to add steel challenge matches into next year's shooting schedule at the CWSA range.

To introduce steel challenge shooting to our members, an un-timed (and just as well!!) practice session was run last Friday afternoon.

In steel challenge, there are several different stages, and you shoot each one several times, all against the clock. In some of the stages you shoot from one box for part of it, them move to another box to shoot the rest of it.

For some of us, a sundial would have sufficed! I can see I need a lot of work.....

For a great video taken at the national championships, click here.

Oh, I forgot to add, the really fast shooters hit five targets, including drawing from a holster, in under two seconds!

W O W .........

Grampa Pinhead Unsuccessfully quits blogging?

Grampa Pinhead has decided that he is unable to quit blogging without professional help, even though he tried to quit a couple of weeks ago.

Rather than exhaust his fortune on a shrink, he's decided to resume blogging, so let's welcome him back!

On the other hand, Mr. Completely could quit blogging any time.

Really......

I could....

It's will power, you know, that's all.......

Nothing to it.......

Of course I could.....

(excuse me, I've got to go get a post up..........)

Blogger Blastorama

Here’s the dealio: On the morning of Sunday October 30th, Mr. Completely and I are going to meet up at the Central Whidbey Sportsman’s Association to go shooting and each of us will be bringing some pumpkins to shoot.

And we would like to invite any and all who would like to join us to do so.

This will be a BYOPumpkins event and we will have the use of an up to 50yd pistol range and an up to 200yd rifle range available for the shooting of pumpkins. After the pumpkins have all been turned to goo, we will also have the Bowling Pin range available to us for some friendly blasting of bowling pins.

I will also be bringing a couple of rifles, including Barak the Boomershoot rifle, and a whole box of pool cue chalks for folks to try their hand at pounding clay. I only have a finite supply of ammo for Barak though, so I will have to limit the number of rounds per shooter depending on attendance. If you want some extended time with Barak and the cue chalk, let me know and we’ll discuss the best ammo for success.

Of course, all of my firearms will be available to shoot as I suspect will be the case for Mr. Completely and most other folks in attendance.

Here is the pretty squared away schedule of events:

We’ll be meeting for breakfast at 1000 at ‘The Clover Patch’ on the island

At 1130 we’ll be leaving for the range (arriving there around noon)

After arriving at the range we’ll shoot until either we run out of ammo, we run out of pumpkins and pins, it gets dark or our trigger fingers give out, which ever comes first.

It can be safely assumed that the last two are probably going to be the most likely.

Now, since Whidbey Island is only accessible from the south via ferry boat, we/you/us may want to consider carpooling to save some scrilla.

If you have any questions about the goings on, car pooling or where to buy cheap pumpkins, please contact me or Mr. Completely.

In fact, just so that we know how many folks are coming, please contact one of us if you would like to join in the fun.

The directions are easy enough from the CWSA website, but there is a signing in/signing out issue to deal with.

The first disclaimer: There is no jacketed ammo allowed on the Pin Range. Hollowpoints, lead and coated lead projectiles are OK, but no jacketed ammo (bouncebacks suck).

The real disclaimer: This is by no means an event sponsored or sanctioned by either myself, Mr. Completely or the CWSA. This is just a couple of guys getting together for some fun and inviting our extend group of pals to join us. If you screw up and hurt yourself, consider yourself an official dumbass because none of us will be or can be held liable for it. I don’t know how far away the nearest emergency room is, but Whidbey is a pretty rural community and I suspect that unless it is just a grazing wound, you’ll be pretty screwed and I’m not above a burial at sea off the side of a ferry boat.

If you are unsafe with your handling firearms, you will be warned to the point of public shaming on your first offense. If you stick around for your second offense you will earn a chance to be disarmed and shamed by me. If you don’t get the hint from your firearm sticking out of your ass and leave quietly and at your own volition, living burial at sea may follow. There will be no exceptions made on the issue of firearms safety. I’d kick my own mother off a range for being unsafe.

Comments

Actually, there’s a hospital only a couple of miles away, but it’s simpler just to shoot the idiots and toss their bodies over the berm.

At least, that’s what we usually do……

……Mr. C.

Lots of IPSC Videos!!

Jerry The Geek at Cogito Ergo Geek has posted some really good video clips of IPSC matches.

Here's the link to 'em!!

WARNING NOTE: ANYONE posting pictures of Mr. Completely trying to not fall down while perambulating around and trying to shoot will be shot at until hit!!

Happy Autumn!

Got this from 1sgt. Buzz Robertson's Aunt,
and thought I'd pass it along.....

Being a Christian is like being a pumpkin. God lifts you up, takes you in, and washes all the dirt off of you. He opens you up, touches you deep inside and scoops out all the yucky stuff-- including the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc. Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside you to shine for all the world to see.

This was passed on to me from another pumpkin and I liked this enough to send it to all the pumpkins in my patch.

Happy Autumn!

October Rifle e-Postal Match

Here's the latest e-Postal rifle match. I apologise for not getting this up sooner, and I don't even have a really good/lame excuse!

AnalogKid at Random Nuclear Strikes is running this match, and I'm sure he's already getting hate-mail!

Here's his entire post:

The Black Death

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen. I present to you your targets for the month of October.

Project1a.jpg

Project1b.jpg

Yeah, you’re hating me already, right?

You can find them in the easier to print PDF form here (thanks to Mr. C for the conversion):
Target 1
Target 2

The targets are made to be printed out onto 8.5×11 inch paper and each square should measure close to, if not exactly, the number of inches listed in the center of each square.

The Task is simple: Put one round through each black square.

Here are the limitations:

You may shoot this at any distance, with any firearm you prefer, with or without optics. I will accept all entries, but as with September’s match, I will need at least three entries to designate a competing class (take two friends to the range with you, you shoot and they shoot and we magically have a new competing class).

There will be also be a distance award for whomever can ace this target at the longest distance.

Each box is worth 10 points for a total of 100 points. If you ace this target at one distance, please move it back and try it there. This is a test, after all.

Ties will be determined on the nearness of hits to the center of mass of each box.

I do not need you to send me pictures of your targets unless there is a tie.

Though I doubt it will help anyone, you may shoot this as many times as you like. I have found that repeated tries at targets of this fashion lead only to multiplied frustration. I am not responsible for any hair you rip out.

Your targets are due by midnight, November 7th, 2005.

Due to my aversion to waiting for a shooting bench this last weekend before general hunting season, I have not shot this target yet. That will be remedied this upcoming weekend and I will post my targets here next Monday the 17th for all to see (and possibly deride and laugh at), so check in for that.

Yes, I have borrowed the design and the name of my target from what I believe was a small bore silhouette target. What with Halloween coming up and all this scare talk about the eminent avian flu epidemic going around, I found it quite appropriate.

If you have any further questions about the task or the target, please feel free to email me at the address listed in the sidebar.

Thank you and good luck folks!

Red Dot Sights - Parallax and Sight Error

Smith & Wesson Model 422
With a Simmons 42mm. Red Dot Sight

I don't claim to be an expert on this, and my optics experience and terminology comes from photography and physics, rather than the gun world, so my terminology may not be the same as everyone elses. In fact, not everyone in the gun world seems to agree on exactly what certain terms mean, either.

I've read several different definitions of parallax. To me, it means that because the sight is not on the same centerline as the barrel, when you are sighted in, you are actually shooting the bullet slightly upward towards the line of sight, so its path intersects the point of aim down range. It then rises above the line of sight as it travels down-range, then starts to decend until it re-crosses the line of sight farther down range.

The only perfectly parallax free sight would have to be looking down the center of the barrel bore, and you'd need "magic bullets" that didn't drop as they travelled down range.

Red dot sights, however, are a bit more complicated. The red dot sights project a tiny red dot onto a see-through mirror, also called the "Beam-Splitter". As you move your head from side to side or up and down, you will see that the dot moves from side to side or up and down inside the sight.

I've read claims that wherever the dot is, that's the point of impact. Not so. As you move your head, and the dot moves inside the sight, it is also slightly moving on the target. It seems that the larger the diameter of the sight, and the closer you are to the target, the more the movement.

I believe that manufacturers design a certain amount of compensation into their sights, but I doubt if a red dot sight exists that doesn't show this at some distance. The 42mm. Simmons red dot sight at twenty-five feet moved well over an inch. Keep in mind, though, that a 42mm. sight is a big sight! In comparison, the C-More, which is more like 25mm., at anything over about fifteen feet didn't appear to move at all.

Here's how to demonstrate this for yourself. It makes more sense once you've actually seen it occur. Set the sight on a flat surface where it won't move around. Look through the sight, and with the dot centered in the scope, move the scope around until the dot is directly on something on a nearby wall, maybe a light switch, door knob, or whatever is handy. Start at maybe a distance of ten feet. Take your hands off the scope, so it doesn't move.

Now slowly move your head from side to side or up and down, and watch the dot appear to move on the wall! As you increase the distance, the effect becomes smaller. It also more or less disappears as you get farther out still. You will also notice that as long as you keep the dot near the center of the sight, it moves very little, usually not enough to make much difference.

From a practical standpoint, what does this mean? As long as gravity affects bullets in flight, you can only be sighted in at two distances, once when the bullet passes through the line of sight on the way up, and once on the way down. Shooting uphill or downhill changes at what range this occurs, but it still occurs. The higher the velocities and the lower the bullet drag, the flatter the bullet arc will be, and the less variation will occur. I would call that the parallax effect caused by sight/barrel offset. Other folks may have different terminology.

The dot moving around in the sight effect (I think I need a better word for this!) isn't as much of a problem as you might think. One of the first things new red dot shooters come up against is when they bring the gun up and they can't find the dot at all! Jerry The Geek refers to wiggling the gun around looking for the dot as the "C-More Shuffle".

With a little practice, when you bring the gun up, the red dot will be in the middle of the sight every time, just as with iron sights, where also with practice, the gun will come up with the sights aligned.

When you are sighting in a red dot sight, make sure you have the dot centered in the sight, and practice shooting with the dot in the same place every time.

Just as in everything else, there are trade-offs, and the right setup for one shooter may not be right for the next.

A large diameter red dot sight has a wide field of view through the sight, but more inaccuracy near the edges, and usually more sight/barrel offset, but the dot is easier to find.

A smaller red dot sight will have less field of view, and will usually mount closer to the barrel reducing sight/barrel offset, but the dot will be harder to find when you first bring the gun up. This is much less of an issue on a rifle than a handgun.

There are several other important considerations concerning red dot sights, including dot size, price versus quality, and so forth, and those may be topics for another post.

"Staged Interview" -- The REAL Story

The Interview With The President

The MSM has been making a big deal about a "Staged Interview" between President Bush and some Army troops.

SGT Ron Long participated in the interview, and also has a very well done blog called They Call Us, "Doc".

Here's the REAL story, the one you probably DIDN'T read in the media.

"Yesterday, I (bottom right corner in the picture) was chosen to be among a small group of soldiers assigned to the 42ID's Task Force Liberty that would speak to President Bush, our Commander-in-Chief.

The interview went well, but I would like to respond to what most of the mass-media has dubbed as, "A Staged Event."

First of all, we were told that we would be speaking with the President of the United States, our Commander-in-Chief, President Bush, so I believe that it would have been totally irresponsible for us NOT to prepare some ideas, facts or comments that we wanted to share with the President.

We were given an idea as to what topics he may discuss with us, but it's the President of the United States; He will choose which way his conversation with us may go.

We practiced passing the microphone around to one another, so we wouldn't choke someone on live TV.

We had an idea as to who we thought should answer what types of questions, unless President Bush called on one of us specifically."

There's a lot more to SGT. Long's story, and you should go HERE to read the entire post.

To see the interview, you can go HERE.

Carnival of Cordite #34 is up!!

Mr. Completely Holds the ""Carnival of Cordite Blog of the Week" trophy up for the crowd gathered at the victory celebration
(Pay no attention to the writing on the trophy - it's a typo)

The suspense was high and the competition keen, but with a keen eye and steady hand Mr. Completely guided the almost, pretty close to, nearly world famous blog "Mr. Completely" to first place in the "Carnival of Cordite Blog of the Week" competition.

The staff writers, editors, and proof readers (they actually proof read it?) were given an additional twenty minutes off this week in celebration, and only a portion of it was docked from their pay.

Mr. Completely knows how to take care of his staff, by golly.............

Here's the link to the Carnival!

NASA Pictures filled with mistakes!

It has now conclusively been proven that the moon landings were faked!

Heroic images or NASA fraud? Just what happened on the moon? At last we have the conclusive proof!

Some of the 'usual suspects' will probably include AnalogKid, Mr. Completely, KeeWee, Rivrdog, and more!

We will be shooting rifles and handguns at targets, bowling pins with handguns, and punkins, both with rifles and pistols, all on the same day! WOO HOO!

The full announcement with all the details will be posted this Monday, both here, and at Random Nuclear Strikes.

Walter Reed Protest Reports

Credit to Andi's World for the picture

As many of you are aware, a lot of anti-war protesting has been going on in front of Walter Reed Army Hospital. This is also the hospital where 1sgt. Buzz Robertson is recuperating, who we have written about here before.

What you may NOT know, considering the current media bias in news reporting, is that there have also been regular and enthusiastic demonstrations of support for our troops and their cause.

The Buzz Report - Latest Update

Here's a new update from SFC Richard (Buzz) Robertson's mom regarding his status:

(Since he may be moving soon, please hold cards and letters until we have a new address. Also, his friend Chuck who has been receiving mail at Walter Reed is ready to move, so please hold the cards and letters for him also.)

The Buzz Report

He's doing well. His fever hasn't gotten over 100 for three days. They've tested him for everything coming and going, done every culture know to man and still do not know why his temp was so high for so long....he was on three antibiotics at one time!!

They've scheduled his skin graft surgery for next Wednesday the 12th. He hopes to be discharged to a rehab facility about a week after that.

He's still on a high from getting to meet George W. and Laura Bush.

He doesn't miss physical therapy (even for the President!). He tries to go twice a day but the high temps and low blood pressure slowed him down a bit, so most days he only goes once a day.

His spirit is unreal. He determination unrelenting and his smile is bright (even with the chipped teeth).

He's truly an inspiration.

Thanks for all the prayers and cards and letters ....you can slow down on the cards, but please NOT the prayers.

Thanks again,

............Buzz's Mom

C-More Sight - UPDATE

Those are 3/8" bulls........

Got a chance to go fire a couple of hundred rounds through my High Standard race gun using the newly mounted C-More red dot sight. Mounting it to the scope mount was uneventful, and just as it should be! Removing the somewhat heavier, and much bulkier Simmons 42mm. red dot sight changed the feel of the gun a bit, but not a lot. The dot seems to be about where I expect it to be, and the smaller and brighter dot is really nice too.

The elevation adjustment is smooth and well marked, and once set, can be locked with a set screw so it will stay where you put it. The windage adjustment isn't marked for left or right, but a little trial and error, and I had both set where I wanted them to be, and locked. Since I primarily shoot bowling pin top competition, I sighted in for twenty-five feet from a bench rest. The above targets were my last two "sighters", ten rounds into each one.

After getting it sighted in, I went to shooting some off-hand rapid-fire, and I was well pleased with the results. A little more getting used to the changes in balance and overall feel, and I think I'm going to REALLY like this sight.

I've got a pin shoot in two weeks, that should be time enough to get used to it.

So far I am definitely impressed!!
