Weather Modification and Hurricanes?

As most of you already know, there is a TV weatherman in Idaho who is claiming that the recent hurricanes have been "managed" or "controlled" in order to use them as a weapon against the Untited States.

For the most part, the mainstream media just dismisses him and his theory as something good for a laugh, but nothing to take seriously.

Here's the hypothetical questions for you:

Assume for the moment that it is possible to remotely influence a hurricane in order to maximize the damage it causes to the mainland. Also assume that somebody has the equipment to do so, and is, in fact, doing exactly that.

1. How many hurricanes would it take for us to figure out what's happening?

2. Assuming that the U.S. Government figures it out, but is powerless to stop it, would they tell us, or keep it secret?

3. If the weather modification equipment was in a foreign country that was otherwise considered to be our friend, we confronted them about it through quiet diplomacy, and they said they were only running a research station and weren't modifying anyone's weather, what should we do?

What do YOU think?

This is hypothetical, so you don't get to change the premises. For the sake of discussion you have to accept the premises as true, and go from there......

You're a little late with this, Mr. C. About 20 years ago, I read a sci-fi story about weather modification used as a force-multiplier for the USMC, who had the weather-controllers in their service.

I forget where I read it, probably in an old issue of Analog.

Assuming the information is solid, and the 'friendly' country says nothing's going on, some careful reconnaisance followed by an industrial accident sounds good.

Question 1: How many? 3. 1 is considered natural, 2 will start the conspiracy theories, 3 will prompt legitimate investigation.

Question 2: the government will eventually confirm what "anonymous" informants leak to the press.

Question 3: I like firehand's suggestion. An oil pipeline explosion or a carefully timed HAZMAT train derailment...but my preference would be to simply and overtly bomb the heck out of the "research station".
