Lookin' out the kitchen window.......
Useless Bay and Double Bluff
I've been trying to taske a good picture of this for years, but yesterday morning KeeWee (of KeeWee's Corner fame) managed to outdo all of my previous efforts.
The fog had just burned off, leaving low level clouds partially hiding Double Bluff. This view is looking roughly West, and when the clouds aren't there you can see a large section of the snow-capped Olympic moutains. Have a look at KeeWee's Corner for another picture showing the moutains.
Just beyond the bluff is the Strait of Juan De Fuca, the main section of Puget Sound connecting the Pacific ocean with the seaports of Seattle, Tacoma, and Everett, Washington.
Useless bay got it's name when Captain Vancouver was exploring the area and determined that the bay was extremely shallow for a long ways out, and was essentially useless as an anchorage for sailing ships. He wrote "Useless" on the chart, and the name stuck!

Dang that's pretty...
I've only been up to Whidbey once, but I'll never forget it. You are SO lucky to live surrounded by such beauty.
