Don's Guns
Dave Smock sent a pic of this ad to me, and I thought you'd like to see it, too. It's unusual to see ads promoting shooting sports businesses even run in a newspaper these days. Our local fish wrapper won't even allow you to run a want ad to buy or sell a firearm, even a shotgun.
It sounds like Don's Guns is a rather cool place. Unfortunately it's a bit far for me to travel. Have any of you been into his store?
Tell him Mr. Completely sends wishes for a Merry Christmas!

I believe Ahab may have some recent insight for you.
I grew up about 40 miles North of Indianapolis and all of our radio and TV stations were out of there. I heard his ads over and over again while growing up but I've never been to his store.
The impression that his radio/TV spots give are that he is a typical "used car salesman" that sells guns instead. His laugh (which they even put in the print ad) has often been described as "downright creepy".
The scariest thing on that ad is "se rentan armas".
Hey Mr. C.
I hate to rain on your parade, but Don's is a shithole.
The Indy PD has tried to shut him down, he's been the subject of numerous criminal investigations, and the yet somehow he still has an FFL. He's the kind of gun shop that Sarah Brady likes to parade around when she's looking for reasons to ban gunshops.
He's also an attention whore, which causes him to say dumbshit to the media (even anti-gun stuff) if he feels like he'll get attention from it. Search my archives for "Don's Guns" and you'll get an idea of how I feel about the guy.
Ahab:
Sorry to hear that. It is kind of a neat ad, though.......

Maybe they already do this, but I think NSSF should be offering sessions to dealers on dealing with the media at SHOT. Even if you're a knowledgeable guy, dealing with the media can be fraught with peril. They will take things out of context and pick out only the parts that fit their preconceived notions, most of which are never good.
I think most dealers are wise to just not talk to the media.
Sebastian: Thyat's an excellent idea. That would also be a good seminar at the NRA convention.

I've lived in central Indiana my whole (except for a brief stay in Juneau). Don has been around forever. He gives gun owners a bad name and does nothing to help reinforce the 2A.
Don's Guns is one of the worst gun shops, no wait, it is the worst gun shop I have ever been in.
If you're ever in Central Indiana, check out Bradis. A great shop with good deals and very helpful employees.
Here in Podunk, you can sell guns in the classified adds.
Heh. I love that.
I call, park down the street a little way so my license number isn't readily apparent, and buy my "untraceable" gun. It's nice to have one or two not on record, just to upset GFW's.
The bigger cities like Toledo and Columbus won't run them in the classifieds, but will still run the gun store and sporting goods adds.
You got to love anyone whose slogan is "I don't wanna make any money, I jus' wanna sell you a gun!"
I worked for Don Davis many years ago. Yes, the place is a shithole. Not only is he an attention whore, but the worst kind of parasite you can imagine. I have personally seen him give an old widow $20.00 (yes, twenty bucks) for her late husband's Remington 1100 shotgun, and turn around and sell it for $400.00.
This place should be avoided like the plague...or perhaps subjected to "household chemiclas in the proper proportions (?)...
Don's is not a shithole, does Don make money, yes. Does he give cops discounts because there cops, no. He is one of the few gun shops in Indy and has been around 20 some years. If it were truly a shithole it would of been closed years ago. To the person who said If you're ever in Central Indiana, check out Bradis. A great shop with good deals and very helpful employees. what a joke. Honestly they sell lawn mowers, lawn mower parts and guns!! I went there one time with a friend because he wanted to by an SKS (cheap gun yes). Anyway after the salesman was finished showing him the gun he put the gun back on the display wall. Then you heard "click". For what ever reason the salesman had put the gun back up cocked and if fired after he put it on the display
bradis is a good gun store and reasonable prices. Dons guns is imfamous in this area. its also in a bad part of town. From what i hear he sells for alittle over market price. He has to be doing some thign right to stay in biz.
bad neighborhood that also borders an afuelent neighborehood. That is part of the perspection. i seen hoody trashy thugy guys go in there. never seen them buy guns.
it also one of the few public ranges in the area. other than pop guns and eaggle creek, and camp atterbury.
