Senate Bill 5197 - Good News!

As an update to the previous post regarding the SB5197, the gun show bill, I have some good news!

I spoke this morning with Senator Jim Clements and his assessment is that the bill is as dead as "A goose twelve yards away in the middle of my decoys!" as he colorfully explained. It will never come out of the rules committee. Even with a 5 to 3 Democratic majority on the original committee hearing the proposed bill, it took some serious arm-twisting to get it passed out of that committee.

Apparently there are too many rural Democrats in opposition, and the folks pushing for this bill now realise it doesn't have enough support to pass without burning a whole lot of bridges and creating a lot of anomosity by trying to force it through.

I sure wish Senator Clements was in MY district so I could vote for him! Of course, that doesn't mean I can't contribute to his campaign, though.......

Thanks, Senator, and also to Senator Holmquist and Senator Hewitt for opposing this terrible bill at the committee level.

Mike,
Can you publish the address where these senators receive campaign contributions? This forum could provide support for these fellows who stick their neck out for our interests. We need to get the gun community in Washington, the US and the world to help these guys because they really stick their necks out for our rights. This is not a free country when it comes to political process. We need to put our money where our mouths are. Mark

Unfortunately the recent accidental shooting in Rochester, the shooting at the Tacoma nightclub and the P-I article about gun tracing have changed the equation somewhat. I received calls Saturday indicating there is more pressure in the Senate Democrat caucus to "do something."
