Total Handgun BAN for Canada Proposed

From the Canadian Globe and Mail:

Liberal Leader Paul Martin says he will ban handguns (in Canada) in a bid to reduce the levels of violence that have plagued the country's urban centres in recent months

"Guns turn punks into killers," said Toronto Mayor David Miller. "We must choke off the supply of guns here in Canada."

(How about go after the punks rather than the guns, eh? )

"The Liberals have been struggling with how to get tougher on criminals. Legislation to beef up penalties for gun crimes died on the order paper when the election was called."

(So you voted against tougher penalties for gun crimes? Didn't want to run the risk of not getting elected, eh?)

"They have now decided, sources said Wednesday, that more policing and tougher sentences will not work and that handguns must be banned."

(Hmmmm, it seems to work everywhere else in the world it's been tried. I wonder why it won't work in Canada?)

"Target shooters — the people who belong to clubs and compete in contests and sometimes even win Olympic gold medals for Canada — will still be able to own handguns, but under some tighter restrictions for storage and after receiving mental health certification."

(I suppose they will also decide that anyone who WANTS to own a handgun is ALREADY nuts! Maybe the politicians should have to get the same mental health certification?)

"In North Bay, Ont., Conservative Leader Stephen Harper said the Liberal plan would fail to crack down on illegal gun use, stop the flow of illegal guns at the border or bring in mandatory minimum prison sentences."

(Ooops! Who let this guy in here? Can't have logic and common sense interfere with this! Right on, brother!!)

If you have a strong stomach for reading the entire article about a lot of good Canadians getting hosed, here's the Globe and Mail's article.

Well, like the old saying goes...it ain't over till the fat lady sings.

This does however affirm the assertion that "registration leads to confiscation", doesn't it?

Stand by for Hoplophile exodus...
