Pull Out of Washington

You may have seen this before, but regardless of where you stand on the issue of the U.S. involvement in Iraq, here's a sobering statistic:

There has been a monthly average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theatre of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2,112 deaths. That gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers.

The firearm death rate in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 100,000 persons for the same period.

That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in the U.S. Capital than you are in Iraq.

Conclusion: The U.S. should pull out of Washington

NOTE: I have not been able to verify these statistics, and it's not in Snopes. If these are incorrect, would you please leave a link to a verifiable source of better data, and I'll correct the story. Thanks!

I can't figure out how the quoted death rate per 100,00 was calculated, but a quick check indicated the following statistics and I have noted web site references. However, it is generally agreed that several months ago we hit 3,000 US deaths, not 2112, so the rate would have to be about 50% higher than Reese quoted so it would be about 90 per 100k in Iraq.

Washington DC death rate
31.2 per 100k

Iraq death rate pre US action

Iraqi death rate post US action

US Coalition deaths in Iraq
3,400
US only deaths 3,144

Blogengeezer at http://daflikkers.blogspot.com/ always has questions. What is the suicide (self inflicted, I don't mean like a 'Cracker' move'in into 'the Hood') rate in most high density cities like Los Angeles for openers? Just curious... I picked up this site from Purple Avenger. I like the vid with the Martin? aborted (too late)? take off. I watch it every now and then as a reminder, (One other word of wisdom, you don't have to 'abort' if you don't 'shoot' without protection) I used to be a prolific (handgun)shooter but was young, macho and didn't wear ear protection, kids aren't too smart, Huh? whadJaSay? Thanks for a fun site.

Thanks Mark. I know that in the part of the city where I live, not much happens in the realm of suicides. In the equilivilent to a 'War Zone' part is a totally different story. The average down in that 'sector' is drug and gang related, and 'outta the ball park'. They do their own 'ethnic cleansing' in that area. we stay out'ta there after dark. Too bad because it did not have that much trouble when I was younger. Signs of the times I guess. http://daflikkers.blogspot.com/
