STOL Competition - Valdez, AK.

This is pretty darn amazing! For those of you not familiar with the term "STOL", it stands for "Short Takeoff And Landing" . There was a competition for bush pilots and local fliers in the Valdez, Alaska area, and here's a short video of an absolutely amazing take off. The landing is also something to see. Note the giant tires to allow landing on really rough or soft ground.

I'd guess a Piper PA18 Super Cub, 180HP? The landing appears to be a Maule.....

I grew up in Valdez.

I'd go flying with my dad every time he'd let me.

Thanks for bringing me a peek at "home".

I can't hit a spot as small as the landing roll out length, although I can always hit the ground.

Thanks for sharing.

The landing was in a custom Maule flown by Greg Miller...amazing pilot. He's got a video out called Big Rocks Long Props with a bunch of stuff like that.

Thanks for sharing these videos with me at home. I grew up with Piper Aircraft. A very fine aircraft. My uncle had a super cub that he sprayed and dusted with. Thanks again, Van Fleet
